Rügen Light Railway: Historic Narrow-Gauge Railway of the Rügen Spa Railway
The “Rasender Roland” is a historic narrow-gauge railway (750 mm gauge) that has been traveling across the island of Rügen since 1895.
As an integral part of public transport, the Rügen Spa Railway connects the rose city of Putbus (Rosenstadt Putbus ) with the Baltic Sea resorts of Binz, Sellin, Baabe, and Göhren. In addition, it offers extra trips from Lauterbach ( Lauterbach ) Mole – just a 5-minute walk from our Hafenhotel zu Putbus (Hafenhotel zu Putbus ) – on about 100 days of the year.
With a top speed of 30 km/h, the “Rasender Roland” leisurely chugs through the picturesque landscape of the island of Rügen, offering breathtakingly beautiful views and a nostalgic charm.

Discover the Sights of the Island of Rügen with the Rasender Roland
Along the route of the “Rasender Roland,” there are numerous Rügen highlights (Rügen-Highlights) that invite a visit. In the white city of Putbus (Putbus), you can stroll through the park or visit the famous theater.
The Baltic Sea resort of Binz, with its kilometer-long sandy beach and pier, is the most well-known seaside resort on the island of Rügen.
In the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin, you will find the nationally popular pier and Wilhelmstraße with its numerous villas in the style of old spa architecture.
One of the most beautiful bays on the island of Rügen, with an approximately 5 km long sandy beach (Sandstrand ), is located between the spa towns of Baabe and Göhren.

Especially in the high season, it is advisable to reserve a seat on the “Rasender Roland” in advance.
We also recommend that you plan your trip so that you have enough time to visit the numerous excursion destinations ( Ausflugsziele) along the railway line. Not only are some of the most beautiful hiking and cycling trails (Wanderstrecken und Radwege) in the immediate vicinity, but also many natural and bathing beaches (Natur- und Badestrand) are not far away.
