City of roses Putbus

Putbus is located in the idyllic south of the island of Rügen and bears the enchanting nickname “City of Roses.” It’s no wonder, as even today the residents feel obligated to a special decree by the town’s founder, Malte zu Putbus.

The Prince once decreed that a rose should always bloom in front of every house. Thus, there are still over 700 standard roses in the “white city,” which has also been a recognized resort town since 1997. During the blooming season, you can enjoy the fragrance of around 100 different rose varieties. These are indeed rosy times in Putbus on Rügen!

Circus Putbus

The architectural centerpiece of the town of Putbus is the Circus, a circular square with rose beds and an obelisk, surrounded by magnificent buildings in the classicist style.

This ensemble of 16 white buildings still characterizes the townscape today and earned Putbus the nickname “White City.”

Inspired by the architecture of an English town, the Putbus Circus nowadays offers an authentic glimpse into the glorious past of the island of Rügen.

Putbus palace park

The history of the 75-hectare Putbus palace park dates back to the 19th century. The park was originally laid out in the English style by Prince Wilhelm Malte I zu Putbus and still houses a large collection of rare, non-native plants.

Carefully laid out paths, artistically designed statues, old trees, a swan pond, and wildlife enclosures, as well as historically magnificent buildings, are still an integral part of the splendid backdrop. As a prestigious place of rest and recreation, the palace park plays an important role in the development of Putbus into a health resort.

In spring and summer, the park transforms into a dreamlike setting for the Putbus Theatre Festival, the PutKuss Palace Park Festival, the regularly held musical picnics (musikalisches Picknicks), markets, and exhibitions such as the LebensArt Putbus (LebensArt Putbus).

Theater Putbus

The Theater Putbus looks back on over 200 years of history, during which this charming classicist festival hall has repeatedly delighted artists and audiences alike.

Thanks to the active support of the Friends’ Association of the Theater Putbus, projects and events – such as the PUTBUS FESTIVAL, “Music in the Park,” the Rügen Cabaret Regatta, and the Foyer Meeting – can continue to be realized in the city of roses and residence.

However, the cultural operations are only possible thanks to the help of sponsors and the receipt of funding.

We support the Theater Putbus by accommodating artists and through a five-course menu at the musical dinner.

Supporting local events as well as local businesses and institutions is very important to us. For this reason, we also sponsored a large screen for the public viewing (Public Viewing) of the German national football team at the 2024 harbor festival (Hafenfest) in Lauterbach (Lauterbach).
