Lauterbach on Rügen
First Seaside Resort on Rügen
Lauterbach is a district of the town of Putbus (Stadt Putbus) and was founded as the first seaside resort on Rügen by Prince Wilhelm Malte zu Putbus as early as 1816. This former fishing village impresses with its charmingly quiet flair and is a popular destination for sailors. The Lauterbach harbor is a popular place to stroll, with a fine selection of restaurants and cafes offering fresh fish and local specialties.
For nature lovers, Lauterbach, located in the protected Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve, is considered an insider tip. The surrounding area offers numerous opportunities to explore the beauty of the island of Rügen. The starting point of the well-known narrow-gauge railway “Rasender Roland” is also located at the Lauterbach pier (Schmalspurbahn “Rasender Roland”).
Lauterbach Harbor and Marina
The Lauterbach harbor and marina are located in front of the island of Vilm (Insel Vilm) in the Greifswalder Bodden lagoon, offering the perfect anchorage for sailors, motorboats, and yachts. In addition to numerous moorings and first-class modern facilities, there are several restaurants, cafés, and small stalls directly at the harbor of Lauterbach in the south of the island of Rügen. This includes our Hafenrestaurant Zum kleinen Leuchtturm (Hafenrestaurant Zum kleinen Leuchtturm), which is popular with gourmets.
Surrounded by a picturesque, unspoiled nature, you can experience uniquely beautiful sunrises directly from your boat or from the balcony of our hotel rooms (Balkon unserer Hotelzimmer).
Enjoy the full maritime experience and take a trip with the “Weiße Flotte” (White Fleet) during your stay in Lauterbach: experience the breathtaking views of the surrounding coastal landscape and explore other parts of the island of Rügen.

Events in Lauterbach
The Lauterbach harbor is also a place for cultural encounters. Maritime festivals, concerts, and markets regularly take place here, attracting visitors from near and far.
The annual harbor festival “Fier up de Pier” (Hafenfest “Fier up de Pier”) is particularly popular, where you can experience live music, handicrafts, and culinary specialties from the region. Visitors can expect a colorful program of events for young and old: children’s shows, bouncy castles, dance groups, shanty choir, Neptune baptism, traditional sailing, boat tours, fire show, and a party with a DJ. We also support the Putbus (Putbus) spa administration with our food truck during the event.
Furthermore, the Rügen Creative Market (Kreativmarkt Rügen) takes place every Wednesday directly in front of our Hafenhotel zu Putbus (Hafenhotels zu Putbus) from June to the end of August. Here you can try out your own creativity under guidance and realize a wide variety of projects – from grinding amber to designing a ceramic jellyfish to manual photo transfer onto wood and stone.
Path of leisure and knowledge
In the immediate vicinity of the Lauterbach harbor, you will find numerous hiking and cycling trails (Wander- und Radwege) that lead you to the most beautiful corners of the island. Take a relaxing hike along the rustic coastal paths or rent a bicycle to discover the nearby beaches and nature reserves.
On the Path of leisure and knowledge (Pfad der Muße und Erkenntnis), there is also a playground and a swimming ladder. Old beech trees form the entrance to this four-kilometer-long hiking trail, which impresses with its primeval forest and magnificent views of Rügen’s Bodden landscape.

Sailing around Rügen
Annually from April to October, you can take advantage of the extensive offerings at the Im Jaich water sports center: whether it’s a sailing trip, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), or kayaking – there’s something for everyone here!
Would you like to explore the island of Rügen from the water? The skippers from “im-jaich” will take you from Lauterbach on an unforgettably beautiful sailing trip. Cutter sailing and after-work sailing are also available.
Let yourself be enchanted by the fresh breeze and the picturesque views of the Greifswalder Bodden lagoon and experience unforgettably beautiful moments. If you would like to spend a great time on the water, you can either book a private excursion or join one of the shared sailing trips – weather and availability permitting, of course.
Another Rügen highlight departing (Rügen-Highlight) from Lauterbach is the crossing and excursions to the island of Vilm (Insel Vilm). This nature reserve is arguably our little primeval forest right off the coast of Rügen. We would be happy to advise you here at the Hafenhotel (Hafenhotel).
