Hiking and cycling on Rügen

Cycling tours and cycle paths around Putbus
Lauterbach (Lauterbach), a picturesque town on the south coast of Rügen, is not only a popular holiday destination but also a true Eldorado for cyclists.
The unique combination of flat coastal sections with deserted natural beaches (Naturstränden), dense forests, and idyllic villages makes the region around our Hafenhotel zu Putbus a perfect terrain for extensive hiking and cycling tours.

Hiking from Lauterbach on Rügen
Our Hafenhotel zu Putbus (Hafenhotel zu Putbus ), with its in-house Hafenrestaurant Zum kleinen Leuchtturm (Hafenrestaurant Zum kleinen Leuchtturm ), is the ideal starting point for hikes. In particular, the Goor, a unique nature reserve right outside the gates of Lauterbach, attracts nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts alike. At the bathing area of the same name on the Rügischer Bodden lagoon, there is also a playground and toilets.
The Goor is a narrow strip of land about 2 kilometers long that stretches between Lauterbach (Lauterbach) and the Greifswalder Bodden lagoon (Badestelle am Rügischen Bodden ). Old beech and oak trees characterize the Path of Leisure and Knowledge.

Path of leisure and knowledge
This 4.2-kilometer-long circular trail leads through the forest area of the Goor and offers informative panels and viewpoints at 19 stations. On this beautiful hiking route, you will learn interesting facts about the history of the area, the local flora and fauna, as well as the significance of the nature reserve.
Each station is a small adventure in itself: whether you admire the imposing umbrella oak, observe the birdlife and the nearby island of Vilm ( Insel Vilm), or simply enjoy the tranquility of the forest – every nature lover and hiker will get their money’s worth here.

Please note the following:
The right equipment is crucial. Above all, good binoculars are essential for birdwatching on Rügen because the distance to the animals can vary greatly, and you cannot always get close to the birds.
Please also respect the uniquely beautiful nature of the island of Rügen and do not get too close to the wild animals. Stay on the designated paths and do not disturb the animals in their natural habitat.
Avoid loud noises and abrupt movements so as not to scare away the birds.
By the way, the Weiße Flotte on Rügen offers several crane watching trips from Breege, Schaprode, and Zingst (Kranichfahrten ab Breege, Schaprode und Zingst) in September and October.
