Jasmund National Park: Chalk Cliffs and Skywalk Rügen

What to do on vacation? Here are our vacation tips and recommendations for excursion destinations on Rügen:

The Jasmund National Park is a nationally renowned nature reserve and landmark of the island of Rügen. With the famous chalk cliffs that majestically rise above the Baltic Sea and the dense beech forest, which is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, Germany’s smallest national park offers a uniquely beautiful panorama. The Jasmund peninsula is also an ideal destination for extensive hikes or bike tours (Wanderungen oder Radtouren) amidst uniquely beautiful nature.

The highest point, the 118-meter-high Königsstuhl (King’s Chair), offers a breathtaking view of the white cliffs and the blue sea from a viewing platform – the Skywalk Rügen. The chalk coast stretches for over 15 kilometers and is constantly changing due to ongoing erosion. The Königsstuhl itself can only be reached on foot or by shuttle bus.

A visit to the Königsstuhl National Park Center is also worthwhile, as interactive exhibitions provide exciting insights into the flora, fauna, and geology of the island of Rügen. We would be happy to help you plan a day trip to the chalk cliffs (Tagesausflugs zur Kreideküste).

Wittow with Cape Arkona

Cape Arkona, also known as the “North Cape,” impresses on the Wittow peninsula with steep cliffs, fascinating views, and historic lighthouses. A former naval navigation tower houses a viewing platform. Exhibitions, lectures, and vernissages also take place here.

The steep coast, the picturesque fishing village of Vitt, and the two lighthouses, the Schinkel Tower and the New Lighthouse, are among the most popular photo motifs on the island of Rügen.

Nearby is the Slavic Jaromarsburg, a historic rampart from the 9th century that offers exciting insights into the island’s history.

Wittow in the north of the island of Rügen is not only scenically charming but also offers ideal conditions for hiking and cycling tours (Wander- und Radtouren). Along the steep coast at Cape Arkona, there are high shore paths that repeatedly offer magnificent views of the sea and the surrounding landscape.

Please contact us if you would like to take a day trip to the chalk cliffs (Tagesausflug zur Kreideküste) and Cape Arkona.

Putbus and Lauterbach

Putbus (Putbus) is the youngest town on Rügen, but its district Lauterbach (Lauterbach) is the oldest seaside resort on the island. It was developed into a residential town in the classicist style by Prince Wilhelm Malte zu Putbus in 1810.

Particularly noteworthy are the Circus Putbus, the circular square with an obelisk in the center, and the beautiful palace park, which is worth a walk at any time of year. With its 8-hectare game reserve, the Putbus Palace Park invites you to observe native animal species. The Putbus Theatre provides cultural entertainment with a varied program.

In Lauterbach is the harbor with our Hotel and Restaurant, from which boat trips start to the nearby island of Vilm (Insel Vilm) or to the Baltic seaside resorts in the southeast of the island of Rügen. In the immediate vicinity, you can explore small natural beaches (Naturstrände) and wooded areas on foot or by bicycle (zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad).
